SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Alfred William "Pete" Raines, 77, of Scott City died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Alfred William "Pete" Raines, 77, of Scott City died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 3, 1923, at Scott City (Illmo), son of Frank Riley and Pauline Leible Raines. He and Bettie Louise Eifert were married Aug. 7, 1945, at Illmo.

Raines was manager of Ford Groves Service Department 37 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Eisleben Lutheran Church and VFW Post 6407.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a prisoner of war.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Kenneth Raines of Jackson, Mo., Gary and Roger Raines of Cape Girardeau, Dean Raines of Scott City; two daughters, Doris Eu-banks of Sikeston, Mo., Tina Glastetter of Scott City; three brothers, Lester, Joseph and Norman "Shorty" Raines of Scott City; three sisters, Vernedia Blattel and Alene Heisserer of Scott City, and Bernice Raines of Cape Gir-ardeau; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 3-8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Eisleben Church, with the Rev. Bob Azinger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
