JACKSON, Mo. -- Pertle Probst, 104, of Jackson died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 21, 1896, at Neelys Landing, Mo., son of Phillip Nathan and Mary Melinda Caroline Friese Probst. He first married Ethel C. Samuel in 1919. She died in 1935. He later married Meta Eugas in November 1935. They lived in Porterville, Calif., a short time and moved back to Jackson. After retiring they lived in Orem, Utah, 15 years and again returned to Jackson. She died June 15, 1996.
Probst worked in his father's general store at Sedgewickville, Mo., and then was a rural mail carrier in Oak Ridge, Mo. He attended Sweeny Mechanics School in Kansas City.
He was a mechanic at Harris Motor Co. in Cape Girardeau and Jackson, was chief mechanic at Brennecke Chevrolet in Jackson 15 years, and later was a self-employed auto mechanic in Jackson, retiring in 1961.
Probst served eight years on Jackson City Council. He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cape Girardeau, the Masonic Lodge, and American Legion Post 158.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1916, serving with the 44th Coast Artillery Unit two and a half years.
Survivors include a daughter, Margery Heard of Porterville; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. An honor guard service will be held at 7.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Gerald Stott and John McMullin officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
