DECATUR, Ill. -- Pearl D. Wheeler, 76, of Decatur died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was born Jan. 8, 1924, at Atwood, Ill., daughter of Leonard and Orpha Mechling Nickell. She and Everett Wheeler were married at Decatur. He died in 1964...

DECATUR, Ill. -- Pearl D. Wheeler, 76, of Decatur died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Jan. 8, 1924, at Atwood, Ill., daughter of Leonard and Orpha Mechling Nickell. She and Everett Wheeler were married at Decatur. He died in 1964.

Wheeler was retired from Montgomery Ward Co. in Decatur, where she was manager of the Customer Service Department. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She also served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Wheeler Stewart of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Frank Nickell of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Ruby Hollman of Decatur; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Dawson and Wikoff Colonial Chapel North at Decatur.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Decatur. Burial will follow at North Fork Cemetery.
