OAK RIDGE -- Payton Miller, 91, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, March 4, 1992, at his home.
He was born Aug. 16, 1900, at Oak Ridge, son of Thomas J. and Dove McLane. He and Hazel Kurre were married March 29, 1929.
Miller was a livestock and mule trader in seven states. He started in the business with his father by selling mules to the U.S. Army in 1920.
He was a member of Oak Ridge United Methodist Church and served on its board many years; member of Oak Ridge School Board 28 years, and served on Cape Girardeau County School Board.
Miller had been a member of Oak Ridge Masonic Lodge 221 more than 65 years, and had served as superintendent of livestock at SEMO District Fair. He was a charter member of Missouri Mule Skinners Society of the University of Missouri at Columbia.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Betty Smith of Patton, June Hulsey of Ironton; a sister, Ruby Hulsey of St. Clair; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Chapel. The Revs. Michael Woods and Lloyd Bollinger will officiate, with burial in Goshen Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today. Masonic service will be at 7:30.
