PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Pauline Virginia Smith, 87, of Perryville died Friday, July 1, 2011, at Independence Care Center in Perryville. She was born Aug. 16, 1923 in Whitewater to William Charles and Ida L. Snider Birkman. She and Charles Clayton Smith were married Sept. 19, 1945, in Clay County, Ark. He died April 1, 2009...

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Pauline Virginia Smith, 87, of Perryville died Friday, July 1, 2011, at Independence Care Center in Perryville.

She was born Aug. 16, 1923 in Whitewater to William Charles and Ida L. Snider Birkman.

She and Charles Clayton Smith were married Sept. 19, 1945, in Clay County, Ark. He died April 1, 2009.

Pauline was a homemaker and had lived in Perryville 35 years.

She was of the Lutheran belief.

Survivors include two sons, Larry (Joyce) Smith of Houston and Gary (Ellen) Smith of St. Louis; two daughters, Sharon (Steven) Pierce of Boston and Lisa (Kenneth) Stark of Perryville; two brothers, William Charles Birkman of Advance, Mo., and Charles Franklin Birkman; a sister, Willie Marie Smith of Advance; five grandchildren, Michael (Gloria) Pierce, Gregory Pierce, Matthew Smith, Kellen Stark and Conner Stark; and two great-grandchildren, Isabel and Sophia Pierce.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three sisters, Alice Orene Poinsett, Maggie Lesch and Genevieve Leggett.

Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Short officiating.

Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
