Pauline Gaither, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Dec. 7, 1914, in Johnston City, Ill., daughter of Samuel Edward and Beulah May Hunt Dial. She and Emmit Gaither were married Aug. 30, 1932, in Benton, Ill.

Gaither moved to Cape Girardeau in 1944 from Benton, Ill. She worked at International Shoe Co., and had been a cook with Mississippi Valley Barge Co. and Mechling Barge Lines. She was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church, and past member of VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Allison of Cape Girardeau; a brother, the Rev. Robert Dial of Benton, Ill.; three sisters, Imogene Welch and Vergia Willmore of Benton, Ill., Wanda Zoellner of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Arrangements are incomplete at Ford and Sons Funeral Home.
