Paul T. Hackney, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, May 5, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born July 24, 1908, at Bertrand, son of Thomas and Myrte Vaughn Hackney.
He married Lillian Fassett on April 9, 1935, in Mounds, Ill. She died June 5, 1985.
Survivors include a son, Paul Hackney of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Virginia Tedder of Omaha; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Charleston High School. He served as coroner of Mississippi County. He then graduated from the Hohenshuh-Carpenter Mortuary School in St. Louis.
He was a licensed embalmer and worked at funeral homes in Greenville, Fredericktown, Van Buren, Charleston and Moberly.
He moved to Cape Girardeau and became a partner in the Seabaugh Funeral Home. The name was changed to the Seabaugh-Hackney Funeral Home.
He then bought the entire business and operated it as the Hackney Funeral Home from 1941 to 1946.
He subsequently closed the business and lived in Cape Girardeau until 1953, working as a city policeman.
He moved to Norwalk, Calif., and worked for Disneyland until retiring in 1987. He then moved back to Cape Girardeau.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. John Owen will officiate.
