JACKSON -- Paul Q. Short, 84, of Jackson died Friday, June 12, 1998, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 21, 1913, near Jackson, son of Maurice A. and Kathleen Dorcas Short.
He married Ruth Markert on Sept. 7, 1938, at Ste. Genevieve. She died on May 30, 1991.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
He attended the Jackson schools and then Westminster College in Fulton for two years. He also was a member of the Elks Club.
He worked at an aircraft plant in California and at the former Jackson Hosiery Mill, Ladreiter's Service Station and Jackson Oil Co.
In 1961, he went to work for the city of Jackson as the custodian at City Hall. He worked there until he retired in October 1978.
He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Altenthal Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.
Survivors include a son, James W. Short of Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter, Evelyn Morton of Jackson; two brothers, Norman Short of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Lester Short of Woodbridge, Va.; and four grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today, with an American Legion service at 7:30.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The Rev. Luther Rhodes will officiate. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Fruitland.
