ZALMA, Mo. — Paul Garrett Powell, 77, of Zalma passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023, at his home.

He was born Dec. 2, 1945, in Milton, West Virginia, the son of Garrett and Deloris Wallace Powell. Paul and Judy Kay Shirrell were united in marriage July 16, 1980, in Fenton, Missouri.

Paul had been a standout athlete at Milton High School. He excelled at football, basketball and track. He was an avid sports lover; he enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs, Mizzou basketball and Marshall University sports.

He had worked at Blenko Glass Co. in Milton. Later, he worked for Dana Corp. in Manchester, Missouri, for 28 years.

In 1966, Paul was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968.

He was a lifelong member of the VFW. He was also a member of Advance (Missouri) Eagles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Powell of the home; mother, Deloris Hogan of Milton; two sons, Paul (Cathy) Powell and Greg Powell, both of O'Fallon, Missouri; daughter, Danette (Larry) Noel of Gravois Mills, Missouri; stepson, Don (Pilar) Shell of Fenton; stepdaughter, Tawnya (Don) Robertson of Cadet, Missouri; sister, Barbara (Everett) Roberts of Milton; five grandchildren, Brett Powell, Gabrielle Powell, Luke Noel, Shelby Noel and Jake Robertson; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia Robertson and Evan Robertson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Garrett Powell.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Leeman Shirrell officiating. Burial will follow at Bollinger County Memorial Park in Marble Hill, Missouri.
