Paul F. Mackey Jr., 69, of Burfordville died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sunday, Jan. 21, 1945, in Herrin, Illinois, to Paul F. and Lois Mallory Mackey Jr.

He and Tamara Mackey were married March 5, 2011, in Cape Girardeau.

Paul was of the Baptist faith. He received a bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, a master's degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago, and a doctoral degree from Kennedy Western University in California. He taught at Metro Business College.

He was a nurse practitioner at the Comprehensive Family Health Care in Benton, Missouri, and at Saint Francis Medical Center over 12 years. He received the Spirit Award at Saint Francis several times.

Paul had a cat named Zippie.

Survivors include his wife, Tamara Mackey of Burfordville; a son, Paul F. (Holly) Mackey III, of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Jennifer (Shawn) Lay of Hoover, Alabama; sisters Paula Baker of Richardson, Texas, and Janice Vogue of Rodney, Michigan; grandchildren Shelby Mackey, Scott Black, Lauren Black, Avery Lay, Jordyn Lay, Cassie Lay, Joshua Lay and Isaac Lay, expected soon; and stepgrandchildren J.P. Leskovich, Sarah Leskovich and Tom Leskovich.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Andrew Scott Mackey.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

There will be no funeral.

Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to Doctors Without Borders, Wounded Warrior Project, Teen Challenge or Smile Train.
