Paul J. "Jerry" Abbott, 67, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 30, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, son of Harry and Elsdena Scherer Abbott.

He and Glenda Bullard were married April 19, 1952. She survives.

Abbott was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau. He was self-employed 30 years in the Cape Girardeau area in the floor-covering, installation business. Abbott was a former member of the Cape Elk's Lodge 639, Coffee Drinkers Friendship Service Club and the Bootheel Bowhunter's Club. Abbott was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Abbott and Brian Abbott, both of Cape Girardeau; four daughters, Deborah Robert of St. Louis, Nancy Beckett, Carolyn Neal and Amy O'Howell, all of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, William Abbott of Perryville, Benny Abbott of Cape Girardeau, and Robert Abbott of Jackson; three grandchildren, Carye Bolton of St. Louis, Tyler Beckett and Aubrey Neal, both of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, with Father Milton Ryan officiating. Burial will be in New Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayer services will be held at 7:45 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy in Jerry Abbott's name may be given to: American Heart Association, American Diabetes Foundation, or St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.
