Funeral for Paul Lee Hackney of LaVista, Neb., formerly of Cape Girardeau, was held March 13, 2001, at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary in Papillion, Neb. Burial was in Cedar Dale Cemetery in Papillion, with military rites conducted by Papillion American Legion Post 32.
Hackney, 66, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Neb., from injuries received in a house fire March 8.
He was born May 7, 1934, at Charleston, Mo., son of Paul and Lillian Fassett Hackney. He married the former Sue Nell Howell of Cape Girardeau.
Hackney was a 1952 graduate of Central High School in Cape Girardeau.
He served in the U.S. Air Force almost 22 years. He served as Sarpy County assessor in Nebraska from 1986-90. He also had been a real estate broker and appraiser. Hackney was a past commander of American Legion Post 32.
Survivors include five daughters, Deborah Pfahl and Paula Gustin of Papillion, Jill Miller of Lincoln, Neb., Judy Stigge of LaVista, Cindy Larsen of Elkhorn, Neb.; a sister, Ginny Tedder of LaVista; a friend, Judy Holland; and 10 grandchildren.
