THEBES, Ill. -- Paul Benefield, 85, of Thebes passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Sept. 21, 1927, near McClure, Ill., son of Clarence "Monk" and Bertha Phillips Benefield. He married Peggy Brown, who survives him. 
Paul was a lifelong farmer near McClure. He was a bus driver for Shawnee School District No. 84 for 23 years, retiring in 1975.
Loving survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lori (Ted) Snyder; a granddaughter, Samantha Snyder; and two grandsons, Austin and Zachary Snyder, all of Jackson; two brothers, Earl (Lavern) Benefield of McClure and Bill (Goldie) Benefield of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Virginia (Glenn) Schearf of Cape Girardeau, Clara (Bob) Tucker of McClure and Alice (Dave) Green of Scott City; and a special nephew, Mark Benefield of Chaffee, Mo.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell, Charles and Lawrence Benefield, and a sister, Louise Matlock.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure, with the Rev. Raymond Oxford officiating.
