CHARLESTON -- Ozie Marie Reeves, 91, of Charleston died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1996, at Charleston Manor.
She was born April 4, 1905, at Silent Run, Ky., daughter of Dura and Dora Utley Franklin. She and James J. Reeves were married June 30, 1932. He died April 4, 1971.
Reeves lived in Charleston most of her life, and attended Marble Hill College. She was a teacher many years, beginning her career at Bird's Mill School in 1924.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, had been a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, held offices in Women's Missionary Society, and was a member of the choir more than 50 years.
Reeves was a member of Missouri State Teachers Association, National Education Association, Retired Teachers Association, Women's Study Club, Katherine Boone Music Club, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Russell Extension Club, and charter member of Mississippi County Historical Society. She was named Charleston's Woman of the Year in 1976.
Reeves was a volunteer five years at Missouri Delta Medical Center, and had worked with American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, and other organizations.
Survivors include a son, Dr. James Reeves of Austin, Texas; a sister, Opal Croft of Springfield; three grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 6-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gerald Collier officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery.
