PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The funeral for Otto J. Schlichting of Wittenberg, Mo., will be held at 10 a.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, Mo. The Rev. Ronald Paseur will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery at Wittenberg.
Friends may call at Young and Sons East Perry Chapel in Altenburg from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m.
Schlichting, 87, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Monticello House in Jackson.
He was born Feb. 2, 1916, in Farrar, Mo., son of Martin and Laura Fiehler Schlichting. He and Martha Werner were married Nov. 26, 1949, in St. Louis. She died June 23, 2002.
Schlichting was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, a former member of the Golden Age Club, and lifetime member of American Legion Post 133 and VFW Post 4282.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 5th Armored Division in Germany.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris Erlacker of Perryville, Joann Mirley of New Wells, Mo.; two brothers, Vernon and Bernard Schlichting of Wittenberg; a sister, Mabel Guth of Jackson; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a son and a sister.
