Otis Marion Sams, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, April 20, 2002 at the Lutheran Home.

He was born Sept. 18, 1917, in Whitewater, Mo., son of Joseph Marion and Dolly Beatrice Huckstep Sams.

From Nov. 3, 1954 to Jan. 16, 1981, he worked at the United States Post Office in Cape Girardeau and retired as head window tech.

On June 20, 1941, he was married to Mary Jewell Allen in Cape Girardeau.

A veteran of World War II, Sams served from Dec. 23, 1942, to March 25, 1946, with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He received the Victory, American Theater, European, African, Middle Eastern and Asiatic ribbons.

He was a member of Red Star Baptist Church and in the Men's Senior Class at the church.

He also belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838.

Including the post office, former employers include E.E. Vogel Grocery, Hirsch Brothers Co., Reliable Life Insurance and International Shoe Company.

Survivors include his wife, Mary J. "Judy" Sams of Cape Girardeau; a son, Brian Sams and his girlfriend, Amy McAllister, of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Sharon Warren and husband, J.D., of Allen, Texas, Vickie Cash and husband, George, of Jacksonville, Ill.; and one great-grandchild, Sierra Brooke Sams of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jesse Earl Sams in 1995, John Lynn Sams in 1997 and Joseph Glenn Sams in 1932; and one sister, Ruby Beatrice Baucom in 1986.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral chapel. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating.

Burial will be held at Fairmont Cemetery in Cape with graveside services provided by the VFW and the Missouri Honors Team.
