Oscar G. Welker, 79, of Jackson passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born July 3, 1937, in Cape Girardeau County to Fred O. and Susan E. "Lizzie" Newell Welker. He and Rosemund A. Fluegge were married Dec. 16, 1955.
Oscar was a member of Bread of Life Restoration Center Church in Jackson. He also served on the board of the Old Salem Cemetery near Millersville.
He worked at the former Lenco in Jackson and Potashnick Construction Co. In 1977, he established Oscar Welker and Sons Excavation Co. in Jackson. He remained active in the company until the recent decline of his health.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 60 years, Rosemund Welker of Jackson; four children, Ricky (Belinda) Welker, Tim (Michelle) Welker, Debbie (Steve) Hartwig and Lisa (Jeff) Nagel, all of Jackson; seven grandchildren, Gabe and Josh Hartwig, Alison Burger, Kohl and Audrey Welker, Chris Wren and Alisha Hise; seven great-grandchildren; two siblings, Mike (Carolyn) Welker and Vickie (the late Jimmy) Tankersley, both of Jackson; and a son-in-law, Joe Burger of Delta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cindy Jo Burger, who passed Aug. 23, 1993; and an infant brother, Jerry Welker.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Greg King officiating. Interment will be in Old Salem Cemetery near Millersville.
