ZALMA -- Oral W. Abernathy, 85, of Zalma, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 1996, at Advance Nursing Center in Advance.

He was born Sept. 17, 1910, at Zalma, son of John and Ella Lemonds Abernathy. He and Mildred Sturgeon were married Oct. 20, 1934, at Marble Hill.

Abernathy was a member of the first graduating class of Zalma High School in 1929. He was retired from Missouri State Highway Department.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jim and Jack Abernathy; two daughters, Dolores Jackson and Shannon Shell; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance from 5-8 p.m. today.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Berrong Cemetery near Gipsy. The Rev. Rudy Pittman will officiate.
