CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Funeral service for Ora (Bud) Proffer, 1231 Marquette Drive, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Chapel in Jackson. The Rev. Luther Rhodes will officiate, with burial in Proffer Cemetery at Crump.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until time of service.
Proffer, 67 years old, died Monday, March 25, 1991, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Jan. 18, 1924, in Burfordville, son of Otis and Mary Manees Proffer. He and the former Margie Proffer were married March 12, 1948, at Perryville.
Proffer was a truck driver with Cape Ready Mix 27 years, retiring in 1986. The family moved here 42 years ago from Crump. He served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ora Kevin and Karl Proffer of Cape; three daughters, Zedith Isaac and Marilyn Pursley of Independence, Beverly Altenthal of Crump; six sisters, Lillie Davie and Wanda Winschel of Cape, Clela Yamnitz of Columbia, Vernie McDaniel of St. Louis, Violet Williams of Perryville, Geraldine Wilson of Belle Rive, Ill.; eight grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
