SCOTT CITY -- Opal I. Sanders, 89, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Scott City, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, in Davenport, Iowa. She was born July 11, 1909, in Como, daughter of Joel and Leona Carter Jennings. She and Revis Stokes were married in August 1924 at Benton. He died July 31, 1931. She and Algie Sanders were married in August 1941 at Benton. He died Oct. 26, 1965...

SCOTT CITY -- Opal I. Sanders, 89, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Scott City, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, in Davenport, Iowa.

She was born July 11, 1909, in Como, daughter of Joel and Leona Carter Jennings. She and Revis Stokes were married in August 1924 at Benton. He died July 31, 1931. She and Algie Sanders were married in August 1941 at Benton. He died Oct. 26, 1965.

She retired from nursing in St. Louis in 1974, having worked in hospitals, nursing homes and private duty.

Survivors include three daughters, Martha Border of Bettendorf, Mary Mecham of Grand Rivers, Ky., and Dorothy Border of Orion, Ill.; a sister, Sevella Cummins of Scott City; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, a daughter and two grandchildren.

Friends may call at McGinnis, Chambers and Sass Funeral Home in Bettendorf from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday and at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Scott City from noon to 1 Friday.

Graveside services will be at the Lightner's Cemetery in Scott City at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
