EAST PRAIRIE -- Opal May LaPlant, 93, of East Prairie died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. She was born Jan. 4, 1905, in East Prairie, daughter of Benjamin A. and Ada Ford Oliver. She and Louie Fieldin LaPlant Sr. were married June 14, 1923, in East Prairie. He died May 18, 1987...

EAST PRAIRIE -- Opal May LaPlant, 93, of East Prairie died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

She was born Jan. 4, 1905, in East Prairie, daughter of Benjamin A. and Ada Ford Oliver. She and Louie Fieldin LaPlant Sr. were married June 14, 1923, in East Prairie. He died May 18, 1987.

LaPlant was a teacher in Mississippi County, and also taught music in her home. She was a member of First Church of God, had been a Sunday School teacher and pianist, and served on the board of Women's Missionary Society at the church and on the state level.

Survivors include a son, L.F. LaPlant Jr. of East Prairie; a daughter, Ruth Hahn of East Prairie; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie after 5 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Larry Smith and Jerry Willer officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
