Kenneth Wayne Emmons, 48, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, September 8, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 5, 1951 in Cape Girardeau, the son of Eugene and Mildred Emmons. He and Teddi Heath were married February 4, 1977 in Jefferson City.
Ken was a 1969 graduate of Cape Central High School. He worked in the Business Opportunities for the Blind Vendor program and operated cafeterias in Noel and then Jefferson City. He was retired at the time of his death. He was active in the Missouri Council of the Blind and the local affiliate of the River City Workers of the Blind. He served as the President of MCB in the past and was the current First Vice President of MCB. He served on the Governor's Statewide Independent Living Council and was a past member of the Rehabilitation Services for the Blind Advisory Council, as an advocate for the blind and visually impaired of the state.
He is survived by his wife, Teddi, his father, Gene, his children, Brandi and Andru Emmons of Cape Girardeau, his brothers Rudy Emmons, of Jackson, Mo. Stanley Emmons, Mick Emmons, and Donny Emmons, all of Cape Girardeau, his sisters Dee Niswonger, Mary Ellen Emmons, Joyce Godwin all of Cape Girardeau, and Debbie Fisher of Lakeland Fla., and many nieces and nephews. His mother, Mildred, and two brothers, Mark Emmons and Charles Emmons preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10.
The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The Reverend Roger Christiansen will officiate. Burial will be in Lorimer Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
The family requests that donations be made to the Missouri Council of the Blind, 8206 A Gravois, St. Louis, Mo. 63123 in lieu of flowers.
