SIKESTON -- Norman "Chalkie" Mitchem, 77, of Sikeston, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1992, at Missouri Delta Medical Center. He was born March 2, 1915, in Otwell, Ark., son of George Washington and Malinda Jane Easton Mitchem. He and Gertrude Harris were married Nov. 27, 1937, in New Madrid. She died Jan. 16, 1992...

SIKESTON -- Norman "Chalkie" Mitchem, 77, of Sikeston, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1992, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born March 2, 1915, in Otwell, Ark., son of George Washington and Malinda Jane Easton Mitchem. He and Gertrude Harris were married Nov. 27, 1937, in New Madrid. She died Jan. 16, 1992.

Mitchem was a retired farmer.

Survivors include three sons, Richard Mitchem of Sikeston, Gary Mitchem of Wickliffe, Ky., George Mitchem of Murfreesboro, Tenn.,; a daughter, Shirley Ramsey of Bell City; a sister, Goldia Lindley of Dowagiac, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Revs. Rodney Mitchem and Doyle Stogsdill will officiate, with burial in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.
