Norman W. Copeland, 73, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 24, 1928, at Fredericktown, Mo., son of Arthur W. and Myrtle M. Dennis Copeland.

He and Wilma Jean Clark were married March 17, 1955, at Fredericktown.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was with the Missouri Highway Patrol from 1955 to 1984, retiring in 1984 with the rank of sergeant. He was director of security at St. Francis Medical Center 3 years and served as Cape Girardeau County sheriff from 1986 to 1994. He was a licensed funeral director with Ford & Sons Funeral Home and a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mona Copeland of Cape Girardeau and Patti Maevers of Jackson, Mo.; a sister, Hilda Phebus of Alamo, Calif.; and two granddaughters.

Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. today at Memorial Park Mausoleum. Entombment will follow at 3 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Methodist Church. At 11 a.m., a memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday by the Revs. Anselm Williams, and Jerry Statler.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
