Gale Norman Chapman, 76, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Norman was born Oct. 19, 1945, to Billy Sunday and Gladys Scism Chapman. He and Sharon Ackman were married Feb. 22, 1966, in Cape Girardeau.
Norman was born in Sikeston, Missouri, and graduated from Delta High School in 1963. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in September 1965; he honorably served until September of 1971. Norman worked as the circulation manager for Southeast Missourian for 19 years and as the field representative/regional circulation manager for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch retiring in 2009. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and horseshoe pitcher. He was the winner of the Tournament of Champions of the SEMO Horseshoe Association. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau and a devoted husband, father and uncle to more than 89 nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Survivors include Sharon, his wife of 56 years; daughter, Lisa Chapman of Cape Girardeau; brother, Larry (Shelly) Chapman of Hillsboro, Missouri; and two sisters, Sharon Bowen of Balwin, Missouri, and Margaret Heuring of New Hamberg, Missouri.
In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded by two brothers, Bill and Kenny Chapman; a sister, Mary Kinder; and a brother-in-law, Joe Heuring.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Frank Burgess officiating. Burial will be in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery near Pocahontas.
