CHARLESTON - Norene Christina Baker, 77, of Charleston, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1992 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Sept. 15, 1914 in the Texas Bend Community north of Charleston. Her parents were the late Thomas Ress and Mable Christina Johnson Essary.
She lived in Mississippi County most of her life and was a member of the First Baptist Church and the VFW Auxiliary in Charleston.
On Nov. 9, 1935, she married Delmar Ernest Baker. He died June 10, 1985. Two brothers and two half brothers also preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, Donald Baker of Charleston, and five daughters: Shirley Creekpaum of Columbia; Paulette McDowell of Route 3 Charleston; Paula Sue Marshall of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Sharon McMikle of Sikeston; and Peggy Thomas of Springfield.
Also surviving are sisters Anna Wright of Charleston and Irene Tiliford of Eagle River, Alaska; a half-brother, Lawrence Quertermous of Cobden, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 4:30 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Monday. Officiating will be the Rev. Charles Green, pastor of the Elm Street Baptist Church, and the Rev. Gerald Collier, pastor of the First Baptist Church, both in Charleston.
Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
