A memorial service for retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Noel John Fischer, 89, of Auburn, Ala., was Sept. 23, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church of Auburn. The Rev. Frank Covington officiated.
Noel was born in Elmwood, Neb., to Luella and John Fischer.
He entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 and retired from the USAF as a senior pilot and veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.
Noel was involved in sales and was a wood broker, specializing in furniture dimension and wood products. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner and active in BSA Southeast Missouri Council and civic duties in Cape Girardeau and Orange Beach, Ala.
He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, Lions Club, American Legion, and Men's Club in the church. He worked many hours at Auburn University for basketball, football and baseball games when the Lions Club was assisting with the athletic activities.
Noel was the loving husband of Olyne Fischer 66 years. Their four sons are Dr. Ken (Lisa) Fischer of Orange, Calif., Gary (Chell) Fischer of Bay Minette, Ala., James Fischer of Houston, Scott Fischer of Auburn; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
His extended family includes, a brother, Oryl L. (Marilyn) Fischer of Broken Bow, Neb.; foster sister, Kathleen (Les) Nightingale of Eagle, Neb.; several nieces, Judy Leitschuh (Jerry) and Deborah (Al) Pieper of Springfield, Ill.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Auburn.
Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home and Crematory in Opelika, Ala., was in charge of arrangements.
