SIKESTON -- Nettie Brooks Watkins, 89, of Sikeston, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1992, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center, where she had resided for two months. She was born March 17, 1903 in Sikeston, daughter of Walter J. and Mary Jane Ramsey Brooks. She had lived in Naples, Fla., where she was owner of a resort facility. SIKESTON -- Nettie Brooks Watkins, 89, of Sikeston, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1992, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center, where she had resided for two months.

She was born March 17, 1903 in Sikeston, daughter of Walter J. and Mary Jane Ramsey Brooks.

She had lived in Naples, Fla., where she was owner of a resort facility. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Charleston.

On June 9, 1941, she married Harry Watkins, who died on Sept. 10, 1967.

One brother and one sister also preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Edna Voelkmer of Toledo, Ohio; two brothers, Jesse Brooks of Indian Springs, Nev., and Lyman Brooks of Paragould, Ark.; two sisters, Carrie Holland of Charleston and Vergie Darr of Mount Vernon, Ind.; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. J.L. Laughlin, pastor of the First Christian Church of Charleston, officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
