Nelson Louis Volkerding, 80, 213 N. Clark, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 1996, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born July 16, 1915, at Gordonville, son of Louis V. and Oma O'Neal Volkerding. He and Dorothy Reisenbichler were married Jan. 19, 1941, at New Wells.

Volkerding operated a blacksmith shop at Dutchtown, then worked in construction and welding, and later worked at VIP Industries, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, active in Association for Retarded Citizens, was a board member of VIP Industries and Heartland Industries.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kenneth and Randall Volkerding of Jackson, Donald Volkerding of Spring, Texas; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Church. The Revs. David Dissen, Steven MacDougall and Vicar Daniel Hackney will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
