McCLURE, Ill. -- Nelson L. Huffman, 91, of McClure died Monday, July 13, 2020, at his home.
He was born Sept. 27, 1928, in Bollinger County, Missouri, to Chalmer and Opal Jauch Huffman. He and Melba Null were married June 8, 1956, in Arbor.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Nelson loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an ordained deacon and was a fine Christian man. He taught Sunday school for many years. He loved to fish and work in the garden.
He was a member of First General Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Huffman of McClure; daughters, Carol (James) Tabor of McClure and Mary (Steve) Burchyett of Taylorsville, Kentucky; son, Stephen (Daphene) Huffman of Thebes, Illinois; sister, Carolyn Woodfin of Marble Hill, Missouri; grandchildren, Danielle (Jamie) Shepard, Sarah (Matt) Cowan, Chris Smiddy, Jonathan (Sheila) Huffman, Joshua (Erica) Huffman, Joel (Kelsey) Huffman and Jonah Huffman; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Melvin Huffman; and sister, Evelyn Huffman.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Face masks are required to enter the funeral home at this time.
Funeral, with full military rites, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Jim Null officiating. Burial will be at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure.
