ORAN, Mo. -- Nelson Curtis, 76, of Oran died Saturday, May 12, 2007, at his home.
He was born Jan. 21, 1931, at Cuba Landing, Tenn., son of A.R. and Ollie E. Winters Curtis. He and Alma Jean Daniels were married June 12, 1951. She died June 20, 1977. He and Martha Shaw Hopper were married Dec. 13, 1980, at LaForge, Mo.
Curtis was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. He was a farmer. Curtis attended Murray Lane Baptist Church in Sikeston, Mo. Curtis was a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 3319 in Sikeston, a past state president of the Eagles and a past regional president. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 114 in Sikeston and a member of the Sikeston Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Vicki Curtis and Nancy Laster, both of Sikeston, Christy Richardson of Portageville, Mo., and Kim Porter of New Madrid, Mo.; two stepsons, Robert Grimes of Sikeston and Bill Hopper of Garland, Texas; a stepdaughter, Lisa Stacy of Oran; seven brothers, Buel Curtis, Gene Curtis and Pete Curtis, all of Matthews, Mo., Perry Curtis of Kingman, Ariz., J.H. Curtis of San Diego, Jerry Curtis of Columbia, Mo., and Don Curtis of Sikeston; two sisters, Ruby Silverthorn of Sikeston and Barbara Laster of Oran; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters and a grandson.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. An Eagles tribute will be conducted by the state officers at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel. The Rev. Kelley Grubbs will officiate, with burial with full military honors in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
