Nelda Marie Devenport, 77, of Chesterfield, Mo., passed away Monday, June 15, 2009.

The daughter of the late Claude O. and Grace Noland Devenport, Nelda was born July 22, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, where she attended public schools and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Following graduation from Central High School, she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone in St. Louis and then resided several years in California before moving to Branson, Mo., in 1980.

Affectionately known as "Gabby," she will be sadly missed by family and friends both in St. Louis and Branson.

Ms. Devenport served as past secretary of the Women of the Moose in Ridgedale, Mo., where she volunteered time to benefit others.

She is survived by two sisters, Bee Eaker of Florissant, Mo., Adriana Jung of St. Peters, Mo.; a brother, C. Nelson Devenport and wife Grace of Eureka, Mo.; an aunt, Pat Devenport of Jackson; several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend of 29 years, Mike Wendell.

Preceding her in death was a beloved son, Derek Proffer; a brother, Cline O. Devenport; and a sister, Lucetra Sperry.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to service time Thursday at Forever Bellerive Funeral Chapel, 740 N. Mason Road, Creve Coeur, Mo.

The service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.
