E. Nelson "Ned" Moore, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at 9:45 p.m. at Chaffee Nursing Center.

He was born July 20, 1914, at DeRay (Delta), son of James Alferd and Nora Bell DeWeese Moore. He and June A. Rhodes Mince were married Sept. 25, 1943, at Crump.

Ned managed E.C. Robinson Lumber Co. in Charleston and Cape Girardeau from 1937 to 1952. He then managed D&G Lumber from 1952 to 1959. He and Oren Reed owned and operated M&R Lumber Co. from 1959 to 1974. He then worked for AmerenUE at the H&H Building until 1999.

Ned was a member of Whitewater Masonic Lodge 417 AF&AM, was worshipful master in 1946, and served as president of the 49th District in 1950. He was a member of Andrew Jackson Order 43 Sword of Bunker Hill, and attended Bethany Baptist Church.

Ned is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Freda) Ackman of Florissant, Mrs. Bob (Mary Bell) Moore of Scott City; a stepsister, Juanita Preston of Cape Girardeau; two grandsons, Kenny Ackman of Florissant and Matt Moore of Scott City; two granddaughters, Karen Heggs of Florissant, Krystal Amick of Scott City; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 4-8 p.m. today. Masonic rites will be at 7.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Memorial Cemetery in Scott City.

Pallbearers will be Michael Heggs, Brad and Bob Ackman, Brandon and Blake Amick, and Buck Rhodes.
