Nancy King

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Nancy A. King, 56, of Carbondale passed away Monday, April 15, 2013, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born Dec. 19, 1956, in Oraville, Ill., to Glen Lavern and Cora Olive "Dot" Baseden Schemonia. She married the love of her life, Jimmy Ray King, on Dec. 31, 1977, at Dutch Ridge Baptist Church in Carbondale.

Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, James Ryan and Angela King of Murphysboro, Ill.; a daughter, Christina Poirier of Anna, Ill.; her parents of Pomona, Ill.; four brothers, Larry Eugene and John Schemonia of Pomona, Frank Schemonia of Murphysboro and Andrew Schemonia of Carbondale; three sisters, Jane Evelyn Pinkston and Brenda Marfio of Murphysboro and Doris Stetson of Duluth, Minn.; five grandchildren, Gunnar Groves, Marlea and Benny Poirier of Anna and Essie and Garron King of Murphysboro.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Chuck, Jimmy Dean and Kenny Schemonia.

Nancy worked as a cook at Carbondale Community High School, and was a member of Dutch Ridge Baptist Church. She loved gardening, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Davie Miller officiating. Interment will be in Tripp Memorial Cemetery in Carbondale.

Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance, and may be made to the American Cancer Society, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
