CAIRO, Ill. -- Nancy Ewing, 93, of Cairo, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 1995, at Jackson County Nursing Home in Murphysboro. She was born Oct. 17, 1902, in Moscow, Tenn., daughter of Luke and Emma Vantelt Briggs. She and Preston E. Ewing Sr. were married in 1927 in Mound City. He died Jan. 9, 1992...

CAIRO, Ill. -- Nancy Ewing, 93, of Cairo, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 1995, at Jackson County Nursing Home in Murphysboro.

She was born Oct. 17, 1902, in Moscow, Tenn., daughter of Luke and Emma Vantelt Briggs. She and Preston E. Ewing Sr. were married in 1927 in Mound City. He died Jan. 9, 1992.

Ewing was a member of Ward Chapel AME Church and its Missionary Society, Stewardess Board, Union Church Aid Society and Willing Workers. She was a member of Cairo NAACP many years.

Survivors include two sons, Preston Ewing Jr. of Cairo, Van Ewing of Chicago; two daughters, Ruth Ingram of Detroit, Mich., Mary Harris of Chicago; two brothers, Peter and LaRue Briggs of Detroit; a sister, Birdie Starks of Champaign; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Algee Memorial Chapel in Cairo. Ronnie Woods will officiate, with burial in Spencer Heights Cemetery at Mounds.

Friends may call at the chapel Sunday from noon to service time.
