MESA, Ariz. -- Nancy Ruth McDowell Cheek, 76, went to be with the Lord in September 2020 in Mesa.

Nancy was born in Cape Girardeau to Chester Lloyd and Virginia Ruth McDowell.

She grew up in Fruitland and attended Fruitland Elementary School and Jackson High School. She later graduated from Southeast Missouri State College with a Bachelor of Science in Education.

Nancy was a high school teacher for more than 25 years and taught business education classes in Desloge, Missouri; Minot College of Business in North Dakota; and Tecumseh High School in New Carlisle, Ohio, from which she also retired in 2005.

Nancy was a believer in Christ Jesus and was a member of East Valley Church of the Nazarene of Mesa. She was a wonderful wife, companion and friend to her husband and a loving mom and grandma. She was a very generous and kind friend to many. She is and will be missed by those who knew her.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Fred David Cheek; daughter, Amy (Chris) Lewis; grandchildren, Matthew and Evelyn; brother, David (Donna) McDowell; sister, Martha McDowell (Wayne) Clark; brothers-in-law, Bill (Cathy) Cheek and Jim Cheek; and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service is being planned for a future date at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Fruitland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy's name to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, www.ncm.org, or Food for the Hungry, www.fh.org.
