MYRTLE MCGARITY

EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral service for Myrtle E. McGarity of St. Louis will be held at 10 a.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel in East Prairie. Burl Britt will officiate, with burial in Dogwood Cemetery.

McGarity, 85, died Sunday, April 6, 1997, at the home of a daughter.

She was born Jan. 29, 1912, in Scotts Hill, Tenn., daughter of Pleasant and Cora Creasy Carlyle. She and Ruel Edgar McGarity were married Nov. 29, 1930. He died Feb. 7, 1981.

Survivors include four sons, Ruel McGarity Jr. and Marion McGarity of Morris Chapel, Tenn., Harvey McGarity of Savannah, Tenn., Fred McGarity of Cahokia, Ill.; two daughters, Ruby Siaus and Joy Brewer of St. Louis; a sister, Julie Weems of East Prairie; 17 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters, a half brother, and five half sisters.
