ALTENBURG, Mo. -- Myrtle V. Kuehnert, 94, of Altenburg passed into the Savior's loving arms Tuesday, July 13, 2021, surrounded by her family at her home.
She was born at home Oct. 7, 1926, on the Schilling family farm near Altenburg to Rudolph and Clara Loebs Schilling, the oldest of seven children. On April 6, 1947, Easter Sunday, she married O. Ernest Kuehnert at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg. He died Oct. 25, 1994.
To this union four daughters were born, Carmen, Barbara, Colleen and Carolyn.
Myrtle had a deep love and trust in the Lord and was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, a Sunday school teacher and began a tape ministry to shut-ins. She had a servant's heart, always willing to help those in need, sending cards, food and visiting shut-ins.
Myrtle valued education and, because of being needed at home at a young age, was able to earn her GED in later years. She instilled this love of learning in her children and grandchildren. She loved gardening, watching birds and tending flowers, but most of all spending time with family and friends. For many years she was a member of "The Bucket Brigade," doing housekeeping for several Cape Girardeau families who became part of her extended family.
Survivors include four daughters, Carmen (John) Bramstedt of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; Barbara (Richard) Seibel of Altenburg; Colleen (Vaughn) Steffens of Frohna, Missouri; and Carolyn (Tim) Wandling of Arnold, Missouri; two brothers, Melvin (Mary) Schilling of Frohna and Harry (Deb) Schilling of Jackson; a sister, Lorene (Leonard) Haertling of Nashville, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Jeff (Robin) Bramstedt of San Diego; Seth Bramstedt of Altenburg; Robyn (Todd) Bess of Marquand, Missouri; Holly (Andy) Brewer of Perryville, Missouri; Luke (Megan) Seibel of Milford, Nebraska; Angela (Brad) Sutterer of St. Louis; John (Sara) Steffens of Frohna; and Bethany (Brandon) Davis of Jackson; two stepgrandchildren, Heather McKire and Samantha Wandling; 15 great-grandchildren, Micah, Sam, Annie, Adrian, Christian, Cayden, Madison, Trevor, Kailey, Landon, Harper, Havyn, Macy, Isabella and Clara, two great-grandsons expected later this year; eight great-stepgrandchildren, Colin, Hailey, Helen, Heidi, Ronyanne, Ke'von, Maurice III and Maursamuel; and three great-great-grandchildren, Cameron, Shiloh and Reign.
