Myron "Boomer" Carter, 70, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at his home. He was born July 27, 1931, at Hornersville, Mo., son of Luther and Carrie Kinsall Carter. He and Carol E. Boston were married May 17, 1980, at Chaffee, Mo. Mr. Carter worked on the Frisco and Burlington Northern Railroads 42 years, retiring in 1993 as a conductor. He was of the Baptist belief...

Myron "Boomer" Carter, 70, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at his home.

He was born July 27, 1931, at Hornersville, Mo., son of Luther and Carrie Kinsall Carter. He and Carol E. Boston were married May 17, 1980, at Chaffee, Mo.

Mr. Carter worked on the Frisco and Burlington Northern Railroads 42 years, retiring in 1993 as a conductor. He was of the Baptist belief.

He was a member of Elks Lodge 24 years and was twice named exalted ruler for BPOE Lodge 639 in Cape Girardeau. He was past vice president of Southeast District of Missouri Elks Association, current auditor to the district deputy grand exalted ruler, member of American Legion Post 63, Eagles Aerie and VFW Post 3838.

Mr. Carter served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, Myron B. Carter Jr. of Scott City, Mo., David W. Carter and Michael D. Carter of Cape Girardeau, Joseph T. Hoffmeister of Jackson, Mo., Timothy Hoffmeister, D.O., of Branson, Mo., Thomas A. Hoffmeister of Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Deborah D. Mosley and Anita L. Montgomery of Chaffee, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Lou Phipps and Charlene Markland of Scott City; and an aunt, Margaret Dempsey of Hornersville.

Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, Ruth E. Carter, Myron B. Carter III, Dustin M. Carter, Jami N. Carter, Michael B. Doerhoff, Coy Carnell, Lori Lundwitz, Eddie Barnhill, David P. Carter, Lynn A. Carter, Daniel P. Carter, Jennifer Henderson, James R. Mosley, Joseph Mosley, Jason Mosley, Joshua Mosley, Samantha Ayers, Corrie Dudley, Andrew Montgomery, Scott Montgomery, Sarah A. Hoffmeister, Elizabeth Hoffmeister, Matthew J. Hoffmeister, Dare Hoffmeister, Chance Hoffmeister, Baron Hoff-meister, Aden Hoffmeister, Alex Hoffmeister and Stephen Hoffmeister.

Twenty great-grandchildren also survive: Caleb Carter, Stephanie Carter, Kaitlyn Carter, Michael Henderson, Thomas Henderson, David Carter, Melinda Carter, Makenzie Henderson, Layton Mosley, James Mosley, Austin Mosley, Shelby Ayers, Christian Ayers, Gabriel Dudley, Calvin Dudley, Jacob Dudley, Destiny Kelly, Zachary Kelly, Phoebe Barnhill, and Gracie Barnhill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Virgil Ray Carter, Fred Merlin Carter, infant brother (stillborn); and a sister, Geraldene Lix.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. An Elks service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Terry Eades officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3838.
