Myrnita B. Grantham, 73, of Cape Girardeau died peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Southeast Hospital.
She was born Oct. 10, 1938, in Marks, Miss., to the late Burnice and Martha Juanita Perkins Buckner. She married Charles Scott Grantham Jr. on Jan. 20, 1957. He preceded her in death Feb. 11, 1998.
Myrnita graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with bachelor's and master's degrees in secondary education. She taught 32 1/2 years, 31 of those at Louis J. Schultz School. She retired in May 1998. She is remembered fondly by many of her former students.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church; ADK; Cape Rock Chapter 60 OES, where she was past matron; and had served as guardian of Bethel 51 International Order of Job's Daughters in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include three sisters, Lilly Brown (Charles), Martha Jo Hudson (Bobby) and Sandy Spencer (Billie Joe), all of Marks; a brother, Gene Buckner (Donna) of Ames, Iowa; two daughters, Cheryl Grantham of Germantown, Md., Myrnita K. Smith of Jackson; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Michelle Smith of Cape Girardeau; 13 nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Nelson Buckner.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Sullenger officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society or International Order of Job's Daughters.
