SIKESTON -- Myles Long Stone, 83, of Sikeston died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born July 24, 1916, at Gideon, son of William Jackson and Pearl Arnold Stone. He first married Johnnie Barnett in June 1935 at Gideon. She died Aug. 6, 1982. He later married Bernice Frank Bryant Dec. 24, 1982, at Morehouse. She died April 6, 1999.
Stone had been a heavy equipment operator and welder in construction and mining. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He lived in Sikeston most of his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church at Morehouse, IOOF at Charleston, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 47 at Dexter, life member of Disabled American Veterans, and charter member of former DAV Chapter 57 at Sikeston.
Survivors include two sons, Darrell Barnett and Larry "Steve" Stone of Sikeston; a sister, Norma Brown of Bonne Terre; a friend, Lisa Franklin of Sikeston; and three granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Friends may call at Blanchard Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today. A Disabled American Veterans service will be held at 7:30.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. J.D. McClard officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery, with military rites by Missouri Military Funeral Honors Program.
