Morris "Horsey" Gaines, 76, of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, July 17, 1992, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born Feb. 2, 1916 in Gideon, Mo., son of Frank Gaines and Minnie Lee Steele Gaines. He married the former Janet Doughty on Nov. 15, 1946, in Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1990...

Morris "Horsey" Gaines, 76, of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, July 17, 1992, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 2, 1916 in Gideon, Mo., son of Frank Gaines and Minnie Lee Steele Gaines.

He married the former Janet Doughty on Nov. 15, 1946, in Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1990.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He was former president of the Kiwanis Club and Chamber of Commerce in Charleston and former president of the Exchange Club in Cape Girardeau. He was a former chairman of the Mississippi County Red Cross and was a former member of the Golden Troopers Drum & Bugle Corp and Cape Capahas baseball team. He was inducted into the SEMO Amateurs BAseball Hall of Fame in 1978.

Survivors include a son, Bradley M. Gaines of Columbia; daughter, Barbara Pera of Memphis, Tenn.; brother, Herman Gaines of Lincoln Park, Mi.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel, with the Rev. David V. Dissen of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park. Graveside service will be presented by the VFW.

Friends may call between 6 and 8 p.. today at the funeral home.
