Monte Ariola

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Monte Rey Ariola, 84, of West Plains, Mo., died Monday, March 27, 2006, at West Vue Nursing Home in West Plains.

He was born April 25, 1921, in Clay County, Ark., son of Monte Zuma and Georgia R. Vines Ariola. He and Evelyn Martha McDonald were married March 15, 1942. She died Nov. 18, 1989.

Ariola worked as a cabinet maker and was a member of DAV Chapter 4 in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart.

Survivors include a son, Charles Ariola of Mountain View, Mo.; four daughters, Rebecca Osborne of Springfield, Mo., Juanita Wiggins of Charleston, S.C., Ida Gwaltney of West Plains, Ramona McGill of Webb City, Mo.; two brothers, Joe Ariola of Steelville, Mo., Jack Ariola of state of Florida; a sister, Juanita Madrid of state of Colorado; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, two daughters, three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Jeff Wells officiating.
