BLOOMFIELD -- Monroe Gilles, 82, of Bloomfield died Friday, Sept. 12, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 4, 1915, at Bell City, son of Harper and Lillie Clark Gilles. He and Evelyn Rampley were married Oct. 1, 1984.

Gilles retired as a maintenance worker with University School District. He was a member of Bell City Baptist Church, Lakeview Masonic Lodge 468 AF&AM at Bell City, Scottish Rite, Valley of St. Louis, and a Shrine club. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Amanda Gorse of St. Louis, Laquitia Ebert of House Springs; a stepdaughter, Linda Jennings of Bernie; two stepsons, Rick Hardin of Dexter, Rocky Hardin of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Lucille Gardner and Juanita Perry of Bell City; two grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son.

Friends may call at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. today. Masonic service will be at 7.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Louis Gardner officiating. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery near Bell City.
