Monica Elizabeth Lewis, 91, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, at Chateau Girardeau Gardens in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Jan. 20, 1932, in Laflin to Henry Leo and Cornelia VanDoren Steinnerd.
She married Joe Champ Lewis on Nov. 4, 1978, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. He preceded her in death Aug. 7, 2005.
Monica was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
She belonged to the St. Ann's Ladies Sodality and enjoyed quilting with the ladies at church. She also enjoyed sewing and making numerous hand-quilted quilts, gardening and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball games and St. Louis Blues hockey teams on television.
Survivors include a sister, Eula (Elmer) Van Gennip; stepson and stepdaughter; and numerous nephews, nieces and many friends.
Monica was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Margaret (Philip) Elfrink, Genevieve (Joe) Elfrink, Winefrieda (Elmer) Beck, Ursula (Joe) Nenninger and Loretta (Eugene) Arnzen.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Jackson, with parish prayers and rosary at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Randolph Tochtrop officiating.
Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Leopold.
