CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Mitchell M. Shell, 75, of Chaffee lost his fight with cancer Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the family home.

He was born Jan. 5, 1938, in Greenbrier, Mo., to Virgil C. and Hazel Cooper Shell. Mitchell and Delores "Dee" Hopkins were married Nov. 4, 1968.

Mitchell was an aircraft electrician and barber in the U.S. Air Force.

He worked for Southern Bell Telephone Co.; owned and operated a pay telephone route; retired as a production supervisor at General Motors in Midwest City, Okla.; and also was a commercial pilot with an instrument and multi-engine rating.

Mitchell was a member of the Christian Church in Chaffee and was past exalted ruler of Chaffee Elks Lodge 1810.

Survivors include his beloved wife, "Dee" of the home; three sons, Mark Shell of Bowling Green, Ky., Steven Shell of Rome, Ga., and Ronald Shell of Scott City; a daughter, Debra Shell of Norman, Okla.; three sisters, Jackie Fowler of Chaffee, Maxine Anderson of Kirkwood, Mo., and Peggy Morey of Quincy, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield at a later date, with full military honors presented by Missouri Honor Guard.

Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee is in charge of arrangements.
