WOLF LAKE, Ill. -- Mina S. Abernathy, 85, of Wolf Lake, Ill., died Friday, March 19, 1993, at the Life Care Center in Jonesboro, Ill.
She was born Sept. 6, 1907, at Wolf Lake, Ill., daughter of Clarence S. and Pearlie Lindsey Kimmel.
She was married to Moses E. Abernathy, in Union County, Ill., on July 9, 1934. He died May 30, 1954.
Abernathy was a member of the Galilee Baptist Church near Wolf Lake.
She at one time worked at the State Forest in Union County. She also worked as a librarian at the former Shawnee Grade School.
Survivors include a son, Getty Abernathy of Wolf Lake, Ill.; a daughter, Merline Karn of Elkhart, Ind.; four sisters, Daisy Long and Lorraine Judd, both of Glendale, Ariz., Beatrice Sensmier of Mansfield, Ohio, Ruth Smith of Peoria, Ariz.; two brothers, William Kimmel of Elkhart, Ind., Charles F. Kimmel of Wolf Lake, Ill; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren,
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son and five brothers.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at the Norris and Son Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Ill.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Norris and Son Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Ill., with the Rev. Raymond Oxford officiating.
Burial will follow in Jonesboro Cemetery.
Wilson A. Gerler
ALTENBERG Wilson A. Gerler, 83, of Altenburg, died Saturday, March 20, 1993, at Vencor Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born July 13, 1909, at Altenburg, son of Christian (John) and Susanna Vegel Gerler.
He was a house painter. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Gerler was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg and the American Legion Post 133 in Perryville.
Survivors include a brother, Ernst Gerler of Potter, Neb.; seven nieces and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Margaret Rall Gerler; four brothers; three sisters and a niece.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today and 6:30-8 a.m. Tuesday at the Young and Sons East Perry Chapel in Altenburg. There will be an American Legion wake service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, with the Rev. Willard Kassulke officiating.
Burial will follow in burial in the church cemetery.
