Milford M. Rhodes, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born Sept. 3, 1914, at Whitewater, son of George and Eda Shoultz Rhodes. He and Estel Proffer were married Oct. 9, 1937.
Rhodes was a carpenter, building houses primarily in Cape Girardeau and Scott counties. He retired in 1977.
Formerly of Crump, he was a longtime member and deacon of Bethlehem General Baptist Church at Crump, served on a number of committees, and helped with construction of the church.
Rhodes was a former board member of Stroderville Cemetery Association and the former Crump School.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Melvin Rhodes of Jackson, Ellis Rhodes of Cape Girardeau, Earl Rhodes of Whitewater; three daughters, Vera Mayfield of Jackson, Leola King of Gordonville, LaDonna Duncan of Paducah, Ky.; a sister, Arvella Estes of Jackson; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and five great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters, and a great-granddaughter.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today, and Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-noon, and then at Bethlehem Church from 12:30 p.m. until service time.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Church, with the Revs. Willis Smith and Joe Allen officiating. Burial will be in Stroderville Cemetery.
