Mildred Murphy

Mildred D. Stotts Murphy, 95, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, July 18, 2008, at the Baptist Home in Ironton, Mo.

She was born Dec. 30, 1912, in Dirigo, Ky., daughter of Joe and Cordia Campbell Stotts. She and Milburn Murphy were married Aug. 3, 1935, in Sparksville, Ky. He died in 1986.

Murphy was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, its Quilting Group and Womens Missionary Union and received a 70-year pin. She worked at Southeast Missouri State University, retiring in 1978. She moved to Cape Girardeau in 1962.

Survivors include two sons, Stanley Murphy and wife Margie of Farmington, Mo., Ralph Murphy and wife Sherry of St. Peters, Mo.; two daughters, Shirley Painton of Painton, Mo., Kaye Pope and husband Carl of Imperial, Mo.; two sisters, Peggy Compton of Frost Proof, Fla., Ocella Corbin of Columbia, Ky.; five grandchildren, Donnie Painton and JoAnna Painton of Painton, Brian Murphy of Farmington, Marla Johnson of Bothell, Wash., and Ryan Murphy of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by parents; husband; a granddaughter, Millie Painton Deck; and a son-in-law, Don Painton.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Shawn Wasson officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens at Morley, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Bethany Baptist Church.
