Mildred Christine "Sue" Meyer, 78, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital, after an extended illness. She was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Conway, Ark., daughter of Carl and Ola Rhea Maxey. She and August R. "Gus" Meyer were married Sept. 28, 1946. Mr. Meyer, who retired as vice president for administrative services at Southeast Missouri State University in 1986, died in 1994...

Mildred Christine "Sue" Meyer, 78, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital, after an extended illness.

She was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Conway, Ark., daughter of Carl and Ola Rhea Maxey. She and August R. "Gus" Meyer were married Sept. 28, 1946. Mr. Meyer, who retired as vice president for administrative services at Southeast Missouri State University in 1986, died in 1994.

Mrs. Meyer graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, and was an elementary school teacher several years.

The family moved to Cape Girardeau in 1960, and Mrs. Meyer became an active community volunteer. She served two terms as president of Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary, and as president of Missouri Association for Hospital Auxiliaries in 1984. She was also a member of PEO Chapter BI, SEMO Boosters Club, and First Christian Church in Cape Girardeau.

She is survived by four children and spouses, Carl August Meyer (Nancy Strite), Robert Dean Meyer (Rebecca Brems), Lee Alan Meyer (Barbara Weatherly), and Becky Sue Meyer Aldridge (Lance Aldridge); eight grandchildren, Christopher Ross Meyer, Erin Christine Meyer, Katrina Rose Meyer, Jeffrey David Meyer, Matthew August Meyer, Carly Joanna Meyer, Zachary Tyler August Aldridge, Ty Clayton Lee Aldridge; a sister, Doris Maxey Hughey of Fayetteville, Ark.; and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at First Christian Church. Dr. David Felty will officiate.

Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, or Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation, or Southeast Missouri State University.
